Select your target tuning (E Standard, Drop D, Eb, and more), then click Start Tuner and allow microphone access. Play one string at a time: the tuner finds the closest string in your chosen tuning and shows how many cents sharp or flat you are. Within ±5 cents is considered well in tune.
For electric guitar, plug into your amp at low volume or play near the microphone. For best results, play in a quiet room and let each note ring cleanly before adjusting the tuning peg. The tuner works on electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, and ukulele.
A cent is 1/100th of a semitone. When the needle is at 0, the note is perfectly in tune. Negative cents means the string is flat (too low): tighten the peg. Positive cents means the string is sharp (too high): loosen the peg. Human ears can generally detect differences of around 5 to 10 cents, so aim for within ±5 cents for clean intonation.
Once your guitar is in tune, open any guitar tab, guitar lesson, or cover video on GuitarZone. Every song page includes a built-in Practice Toolbar with A/B loop and 0.5× speed control, so you can tune up and start practicing the exact riff you're working on, all in one place.
